Questa coppia non tornerà a casa prima di aver fatto 134 cose in giro per il mondo

La storia di Chanel e Stevo inizia nel 2010, quando lei aveva iniziato ad adottare una filosofia di vita molto interessante: dopo aver visto il film “Yes Man” nel quale Jim Carrey dice di sì a qualsiasi proposta, decise di seguire il flusso degli eventi acconsentendo a qualsiasi richiesta e dimostrandosi aperta a tutte le possibilità che la vita aveva da offrire.

Poco dopo, un amico le propose un appuntamento al buio con Stevo e lei disse di sì per rimanere fedele alla sua sfida. I due si innamorarono e si misero insieme.

Nei successivi cinque anni hanno vissuto nella loro città natale, Johannesburg.

Lavoravano entrambi in ambiti creativi, guadagnavano bene, avevano una casa, un’automobile, amici e famigliari. Tutto sembrava andare alla perfezione, ma la routine aveva spento il loro desiderio di scoperta.

La teoria di Yes Man

Della filosofia di “Yes Man” non era più rimasto nulla e il loro spirito avventuroso era stato soffocato dalle comodità della gabbia dorata che era diventata la loro vita. Chi ha il Wanderlust non può stare fermo, nemmeno se vive una vita da sogno.

Non ci sentivamo più in gioco“, spiega Chanel sul blog. “Pensavamo continuamente all’ultima volta in cui avevamo fallito e la teoria di Yes Man si riaffacciò, con la differenza che questa volta volevamo adottarla entrambi. Volevamo uscire dalla nostra comfort zone e avere l’opportunità di dire di sì a un sacco di nuove esperienze“.

 

Così hanno deciso di partire, ma non trovando una destinazione migliore delle altre, hanno semplicemente scelto di andare il più lontano possibile da casa.

Questo è ciò che avrebbero fatto fisicamente, ma anche metaforicamente: volevano allontanarsi dalle comodità, tornare a sentire il rischio e l’eccitazione di una vita avventurosa.

La lista dei desideri da realizzare in giro per il mondo

Questo è il motivo per cui hanno chiamato il loro blog “How Far From Home“, ovvero “quanto lontano da casa“. Ma per rendere il viaggio veramente epico, hanno voluto anche creare una Wanderlist, ovvero una lista di cose da fare in giro per il mondo.

Il loro obiettivo è di non rientrare a casa fino a quando non l’avranno completata.

D’altronde il loro viaggio è anche una sfidai. Vogliono mettersi alla prova, spingersi al limite e scoprire fin dove possono arrivare. Secondo Chanel e Stevo, questo è il modo migliore per sentirsi vivi, così hanno deciso di non tornare finché non avranno fatto 134 cose in giro per il pianeta.

Dopo due anni di viaggio ne hanno completate 62, tra cui visitare i fiordi norvegesi, bere birra tradizionale in Germania, accamparsi sotto le stelle, imparare una nuova lingua, assistere a un concerto dei Red Hot Chilli Peppers, festeggiare il 30esimo compleanno in una città sconosciuta, fare snorkelling in Indonesia e vivere per un mese con meno di €5 al giorno.

Ma la strada è ancora lunga, perché ci sono ancora tante attività da svolgere.

Prima di tornare a casa vogliono a tutti costi imparare a ballare in Sud America, pescare un salmone in Alaska, passare il capodanno a New York, dormire in un igloo, imparare a fare snowboard, nuotare con le balene, arrivare sulla cima della Stairway to Heaven alle Hawaii e molto altro.

Un viaggio da sogno, nel quale scoprire il mondo e scoprire se stessi. Un’esperienza invidiabile e indimenticabile, che stanno finanziando con i risparmi accumulati in 15 anni di lavoro. Erano arrivati al punto di chiedersi cosa fare dei soldi che avevano da parte, e la risposta è stata immediata: viaggiare per il mondo facendo tutto ciò che avevano sempre desiderato.
